Alfredo Jaar. Alicia Chillida

Alfredo Jaar exhibits his work, Epilogue (1998), In memoriam, a video installation based on the media's treatment of the genocide that took place in Rwanda in 1994. Jaar's work will be exhibited in parallel to the workshop that begins the following day in the same hall, entitled Aesthetics of Resistance, aimed at those whose trajectory and interests are in the areas of artistic production, media, humanities, anthropology, sociology, architecture, urbanism, cinema, citizen action... The proposals made by the workshop participants will later be incorporated into the exhibition. 

Alfredo Jaar is a renowned artist, architect and filmmaker. He has lived and worked in New York since 1982.His work revolves around geopolitical and social crises, relations between first and third world countries, the immigration conflict, racial violence, refugees...

He has participated in the Venice, São Paulo, Johannesburg, Sydney, Istanbul and Kwangju Biennials, as well as the Documenta in Kassel. His most important exhibitions have taken place at the New Museum of Contemporary Art from New York, Whitechapel of London, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago, the Pergamon Museum in Berlin and the Moderna Museet of Stockholm. There are more than thirty monographic publications on his work. 

About the workshop he teaches at CAAM, Alfredo Jaar exposes: Aesthetics of Resistance "How to create art in a world like today's? How to make art from information that most would prefer to ignore? How to succeed in inscribing our artistic practice in a media landscape oversaturated with consumer images? How to make the invisible visible?" 

This intensive two-week seminar explores methods through which artistic practice can creatively approach contemporary reality. New strategies of presentation and representation are explored in order to create new models of intervention and resistance.

The workshop has the participation of three international artists who will give a series of lectures open to the public, at 7.30 p.m., with the following schedule.

This is the second workshop-exhibition held by the CAAM, which expands the format workshop and seeks to place the creation of the archipelago in direct dialogue with national and international artistic production.

Confronting and dialoguing become fundamental mechanisms of action already developed in the workshop that Lara Almarcegui (Zaragoza) and Juan Gopar (Lanzarote) carried out, with a clear vocation of breaking the limits of the museum to go out to meet the urban space and question the citizen in his daily life.
