class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Between Volcanoes <\/strong>(2021-2025) is Hannah Collins' response, curated by Alicia Chillida, to the XII Lanzarote Biennial. It consists of an open project, in process, dedicated to the Mexican volcano Paricut\u00edn, (in Pur\u00e9pecha <em>Parhikutini<\/em>(the 'place on the other side'), on which the artist has worked <em>in situ<\/em> for the last two years. On the occasion of the Biennial, the Paricut\u00edn establishes a dialogue with the volcanic specificity of the Canary Islands archipelago.<\/p><p>The theme of the project is an open reflection on ecology, sustainability and the future of the earth, the mythical value of fire and the observation of the sky, from Lanzarote and Michoac\u00e1n, following the premises of the XII Biennial of Lanzarote.<\/p><p>An essay by the artist written in her own handwriting in charcoal on the wall of the exhibition room next to the works in the same hierarchy, refers to Collins' interest and research on the subject. It is an essay in the form of a literary work, so close to that of the European travelers of the 19th century in their desire to travel to discover new lands, with an encyclopedic and poetic eagerness. Both seek direct experience as a way of recording our connection with a globalized world: a new kind of narrative.<\/p><p>The volcano acquires a humanized nature under the mentality of the inhabitants of Michoac\u00e1n, who experienced its eruption in 1943. Because of its recent history and its singularity, which was born only once and had an eruption that lasted nine years, eleven days and ten hours, it marked a significant historical event in world volcanology.<\/p><p>Parallel to the Mexican volcano we find the testimonies of those who witnessed the eruption of Timanfaya, compiled by the oral history of the Canary Islands. La Corona Volcano, in the north of Lanzarote, is a 21,000 year old volcano. Timanfaya erupted in 1730 and remained active until 1736. The memory of volcanoes is part of the island's collective imagination and is fundamental as intangible heritage.<\/p><p>In November 2024 they travel to Lanzarote, in response to the invitation of the director of the XII Biennial of Art, to carry out fieldwork in the Timanfaya National Park, in the company of Marta Pe\u00f1a, an agricultural engineer from Lanzarote, and in the surroundings of La Corona Volcano with the artist Juan Gopar.<\/p><p>The photographs of the Lanzarote landscape are contextualized with other images taken in Mexico, Chile and the Colombian Amazon to make up this new exhibition.
